Return of Mr. Jory.

Today and yesterday we as a school experience the return of the one and only Mr. Jon Jory. Mr. Jory is a highlight of the American theatre and in the words of Andrew Tsao, "he has forgotten more about theatre than I'll ever know." He started the Long Warf Theatre in New Haven CT, and basically grew up around the theatre.

We have had class with him the last two days and it has rejuvenated my drive and love doing what I do. Mr. Jory has a very interesting a different approach to teaching acting. He doesn't even attempt to teach you how to get your soul into it or acknowledge that he knows how, in fact the opposite he tells you he doesn't know how or does he have some secret acting technique. Just Jon's acting garage. Where he goes through technique; speed, clarity, energy, gusto, and most importantly variety(the mix). This transport of the heart as he calls it infuses the bit of artifice and theatricality we need. Gosh it's good! Great man, great teacher.

I'm still working on the show pictures, i promise they will come.

The Last Witch

The Last Witch has it's first preview tonight! It has been a long tech but worthwhile.

I'm starting to find tech useful. Before this tech I would stand around and wait for the next cue while the lights and sound were fixed, recently it has been very different. Instead of the waiting I build a psycho physical history for my character and my costume. I imbue my props and costume pieces with a history, where they came from, who gave them to me, what the have been and could be used for in my daily life. This idea of using the tech time has been said to me before but I never thought to do it in the moment. It has been greatly useful and rewarding.

I'll let you know how it goes and pictures should soon follow. I hope all is well with everyone.
