Long time coming.

Alright I haven't posted in a while and am being shamed daily by Dahnya. (Fran even posted in the time I haven't) I've been extremely busy but I'll stop apologizing.

The news! I'm in tech for Caucasian Chalk Circle, which is going well. It's slow going but that's the life. Here is a video link: http://depts.washington.edu/uwdrama/
This is what I look like currently. Reign of Fire anyone?

It's been a tough 1/4 in general, we are getting piled still with work and the difficulty is ever growing. On the bright side, Rosellyn and Charles are coming west for the first time next a weekend. I'll have to take them to the troll, Lenin, Molly Moon's, and anything else.(suggestions)

I just have to survive 3 more weeks and then I can breath.

Steve Martin play in the spring! Wadup!

Blue Scholars

As it turns out there is a UW rap group! The Blue Scholars are actually not that bad, possibly even good. This is one of there songs about the U(not Miami). Dahnya and Fran you may remember some of the places they rhyme about.

On another note my solo show is coming up at the end of the quarter and anyone who has interesting thoughts about why people of history have done bad things let me know. Books to read would be great.

Gloria!

I got a new bike! I traded in the fixed gear so I could get some serious riding done. Fixed was fun but in Seattle we have hills, no offense H-town. It actually is pretty much the same bike as Helga. Helga would have been top of the line when I had her and Gloria is not, but the technology is the same because it cycles down. Look out fat men and women who passed me because you have gears, I'm a comin!

Return of Mr. Jory.

Today and yesterday we as a school experience the return of the one and only Mr. Jon Jory. Mr. Jory is a highlight of the American theatre and in the words of Andrew Tsao, "he has forgotten more about theatre than I'll ever know." He started the Long Warf Theatre in New Haven CT, and basically grew up around the theatre.

We have had class with him the last two days and it has rejuvenated my drive and love doing what I do. Mr. Jory has a very interesting a different approach to teaching acting. He doesn't even attempt to teach you how to get your soul into it or acknowledge that he knows how, in fact the opposite he tells you he doesn't know how or does he have some secret acting technique. Just Jon's acting garage. Where he goes through technique; speed, clarity, energy, gusto, and most importantly variety(the mix). This transport of the heart as he calls it infuses the bit of artifice and theatricality we need. Gosh it's good! Great man, great teacher.

I'm still working on the show pictures, i promise they will come.

The Last Witch

The Last Witch has it's first preview tonight! It has been a long tech but worthwhile.

I'm starting to find tech useful. Before this tech I would stand around and wait for the next cue while the lights and sound were fixed, recently it has been very different. Instead of the waiting I build a psycho physical history for my character and my costume. I imbue my props and costume pieces with a history, where they came from, who gave them to me, what the have been and could be used for in my daily life. This idea of using the tech time has been said to me before but I never thought to do it in the moment. It has been greatly useful and rewarding.

I'll let you know how it goes and pictures should soon follow. I hope all is well with everyone.

Grad school!

So we have a perfomance of "The Agamemnon" on friday. We started rehearsing last week, no problem right... wrong. This is supposed to be a laboratory process class so the feeling of being unprepare is supposed to be there. We need to learn how to produce work in a short time, balls. I have a significant problem because my personal process takes a long time and this is helpful but stressful, with a short rehearsal I never feel prepared, C'est la vie.

On top of all this we go into tech for "The Last Witch" on friday. With a music rehearsal today and the thanksgiving break looming, there is much work to be done. On the lighter side how often do you get to wear leather hot pants, have your body covered in tattoos and walk out of a 12 foot moon! I know right, it's good to be the devil. Which means after this show I might have to change the title of this blog. Oooh I could have a revolving title, haha good luck finding my blog. No one has read it yet but it's fun to write. I feel like Barney Stinson. “Think of me like Yoda, but instead of being little and green I wear suits and I'm awesome. I'm your bro—I'm Broda!” I need a digital camera btw.

Four Loko Banned by Washington State Liquor Control Board

(Nov. 10) -- Next week, Washington state residents will no longer find "blackout in a can" beverage Four Loko on liquor store shelves.

The infamous party drink responsible for the hospitalization of nine Central Washington University students at an Oct. 8 house party is being placed under emergency ban by the state's Liquor Control Board, set to go into effect Nov. 17, according to The Seattle Times.

The temporary ban, which passed unanimously and includes all caffeinated alcohol drinks, will remain in place for 120 days as the board deliberates protocol for a permanent prohibition. The Liquor Control Board cited "public health and safety concerns" as the basis for its decision.

A lobbyist for Phusion Projects, maker of Four Loko, objected to the Liquor Control Board's ruling.

"No one is more upset than we are when our products are abused or consumed illegally by underage drinkers," said lobbyist Jim Halstrom. "But we also believe curbing alcohol abuse or underage drinking will not be accomplished by singling out a lone product or beverage category. We think the true answer lies with increased education and awareness by all and with respect for the law."

Several colleges including the University of Rhode Island and Ramapo College in New Jersey recently banned the caffeinated alcoholic concoction from their campuses. Michigan and Oklahoma are also prohibiting the sale of similar products.

Ok, this is distressing! Needed to share.

Wednesday

I deleted facebook several moons ago.

This is now the new/old way to communicate. I was drawn by Francis and Dahnya and now am here.

This week has been a difficult so far but seems to be looking up. I discovered that I'm not just losing Thanksgiving with my students but also veterans day. Props to the military, however I am a poor planner not seeing this sooner. I feel good after office hours today non the less. My students seem to have a grasp on the concepts of acting, which is great! Heaven knows it takes a lifetime to apply them, my issue as well.

I think blogging should help my lack of successful grammatical application, the future looks bright. I hope to be more interesting in the future when I get used to the system but until then this is the first hello...

Hi!
